Connect two laptops without a wireless router

Hi,
I am trying to connect two D600 latitudes without a wireless router.
This link mentions howto(

I changed my preferred n/ws to adhoc only. I expect my second computer to
detect the first one but it doesnt do that.
Also one of the cards is a dell truemobile 1300 wlan mini-pci card and the
other one is a dell truemobile 1350 wlan mini-pci card. Are they different
from the adapter cards mentioned in the howto?
