Hi all,

Is it possible to connect to a Windows 2000 professional
workstation from a Windows XP Professional workstation
using remote desktop??

Does the 2000 workstaion have to have some software
installed on it before I can connect to it?
Thanks,
Damon

I have read somewhere that it's not possible to connect
the window 2000 professional remote desktop. But I'm sure
there might be some utilities that make the machine
possible to connect. Could please anyone in the forum
answer out question..

Thanx.

Muneeb.

No.
Terminal Services, the structure which Remote Desktop (and Remote Assistance
and Fast User Switching) is built on--is not a part of the Windows 2000
Professional product, and can't be added.

Out of the box, you can use NetMeeting's Remote Desktop Sharing
feature--NetMeeting can be found on XP by Start, run, conf <enter>

Or--third party applications, such as PCAnywhere, VNC.
With the third-party apps, pay special attention to encryption and security
vulnerabilities.

Likewise, is it possible to use the Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing feature to do remote control from Win2k to WinXP and vice versa? I have been able to do this 2000 and below, but when I try to do 2000 controlling XP Pro, I get that type message you get when Netmeeting hasn't been setup

I don't know the answer to this--I haven't tried it, and what I've seen
posted makes me think it might not be possible, but I haven't tested to
ascertain one way or the other.

One reason I haven't tested is that it IS possible to use Remote Desktop
Connection from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Professional (or from any other
version of Windows from Windows 95 up!)

Just install the Remote Desktop Connection off the XP install CD, or
download from Microsofts web site.
