connect to Visio,Excel over a network

I have a database in Access and currently output drawings to Visio and
various lists and templates to Excel. I would like to move Excel and
Visio to a seprerate machine and conncet to them from Access. The
database is now setup with the frontend on one machine and the backends
on other machines. How does one connect to Excel or Visio over a
network?
 
I have no experience of this and don't know whether it works. But I'd
start with a web search for "remote ole automation".
