Connect from XP Home to XP Professional Computers

M

Mac Lingo

I can't figure out how to get my XP Home comuputer to "see" my XP
Professional computer.
I do see that there is some stuff on the M/S Knowledge base about why this
doesn't work,
but I can't find anything that does make it work.

Anybody know how to get this to work?

Many thanks,
Mac

On each WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be
able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall is
disabled on the internal LAN connection.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:

Wrong on both counts, and very dangerous advice, to boot. Why are you
deliberately trying to cause more problems for the OP?

Firewalls, if present, simply need to be properly configured, not
disabled; anti-virus applications can have *NO* possible affect on this
situation.

Open internet connections in control panel, locate "create a new connection",
follow the wizard..Also,how are you connecting the 2 pcs,one must use a
Cable crossover-cable,to connect, although it looks just like a ethernet
cable,
its not,& w/o it,you'll never connect the 2 pcs.They cost about 7.00

You're assuming he's doing it maliciously? I think it's just due to
ignorance on his part. This isn't the first time.

Do this on both machines.

In “My Network Placesâ€: “Set up a Home or Small Office Networkâ€
OR under Accessories > Communications > Network Setup Wizard > Allow File
and Printer Sharing.

your so full of it.

the reason disabling
the firewalls and av's
is because they are
likely not configured
correctly.

in addition, if this is
a home network then
there is no cross contamination
since the av's have already
scanned the computers.

again, you don't fail
in proving how much
of a moron and manipulator
you continue to be.

Self-projection noted, once again.
"Methinks thou doth protest too much..."
(I realize you're not literate enough to know or understand that, however).

No, I'm n ot assuming. He's been corrected many times, before.

I think it's just due to
ignorance on his part. This isn't the first time.

Precisely. It isn't the first time he's posted this bad advice, and
he's been corrected many times. Ergo, the only reason he continues to
post known bad advice must be maliciousness.

Liart. If that's what you really thought, you'd have advised the OP to
configure them correctly.

in addition, if this is
a home network then
there is no cross contamination
since the av's have already
scanned the computers.

And you now have psychic powers? On what information dop you based
such an assumption. And, for that matter, a freshly scanned computer
can still get infected within seconds of hitting the Internet without a
firewall in place.

again, you don't fail
in proving how much
of a moron and manipulator
you continue to be.

To respond at a level which I'm sure you'll understand: "I know you
are, but what am I?"

You've once again proven that you know nothing about computers, and are
fiercely proud of it you are.

No, another reason is that he's just too dumb and egocentric to take
anything in. And I believe it is precisely that.

unfortunately, you cannot
devalidate yourself as a moron
by devalidating others.

but such attempts are
recognizable attributes.

I suppose that's theoretically possible, but I have a hard time
believing any organism sufficiently advanced to metabolize oxygen could
really be that stupid. Oh wait.... I'm forgetting President G. W. Bush;
you just might be right, after all.
