Connect a second server to the domain

HI i have a small business server 200 running as domain controller in my
branch office, i want to add a second server as a database server to run a
database app. The second server is also running Windows 2000 server SP4.

When i try to join the domain....i get an error that says "there is a
conflict in the credentials" I dunno what to do!!....

Apart from this....if i want to make the SBS server only run
exchange,...what all steps do i need to do...im thinkin of setting up another
router for DHCP, DNS and NAT.

The first thing I'd recommend would be that you leave DHCP and DNS on the
SBS server, since Active Directory works best that way.

Make sure the member server does not have any mapped resources (the command
NET USE * /D at a command prompt will disconnect any active mappings) active
when you attempt to join the domain.

Give the new server static network settings. It must use the SBS server as
the DNS and WINS server. Make sure the credentials you give it are from the
SBS box not from the local administrator on the new server.

Thanks Philip, richard....

I just have a query ..if i add the new server as a computer in the Active
directory listing on the SBS....and also change the network settings of the
member server to use the SBS server for DNS will this suffice? ....and will
this allow me to join the domain....the reason iam asking this is to join the
domain i have to login to the member server as local admin....that might be
a problem ....correct???

if not...can you give me some steps on how to go thru this proceses?

Cheers
SK

1. Log into the local new server as the local Admin (Admin account on the
box itself).
2. Use the SBS as the "DNS" and "WINS"servers in the new server's network
settings.
3. Then just join it to the domain. When prompted for credentials, use the
Domain Admin.
4. It will automatically be added to AD when joined. It will be in the
"Computers" folder. You can move it to whatever OU you want it to be in
after that.
