I want to connect 2 laptops so I can copy files from one to the other. Both
are e-net compatible. Can I just plug an e-net transfer cable from one to
the other? How do I get one computer to recognize the other?

To connect two computers directly you would need a crossover Ethernet cable,
not a straight Ethernet cable. You'd do well to make sure that both have
the same workgroup name and different machine names, and it would be helpful
to log onto both PCs with the same name and password.
