HELP!!! I am new to this but haven't been able to find a solution to m
problem and hoping you can help...
I have a wireless network, which prior to last week, worked great - n
problems!
Now, 2 other people (I am assuming in my neighborhood) have set u
wireless networks (Merry Christmas!) and now I am having tons o
network problems.
My wireless kicks me off every few minutes now and doesn't know what t
do becuase there are now 3 available networks. I have tried everythin
I can think of to get them off of my list - my computer doesn't eve
look for networks anymore.. (just kicked me off again), and nothin
seems to work. Any ideas? I am tempted to type up a flyer and put o
peoples doors - hopefully the person with the network will change it t
have password protection and solve my problem. Any ideas where t
start?
Thanks so much

Maybe some 2.4 GHz phones are doing the same...kicking you off.

Don't you have a SID on your router. And on your Wireless card has the same
SID. Better make sure your router only lets you on by using MAC restricted
access. You know you can change the channels on the router like a cordless
phone.

2.4 GHz what a joke....You need no air wave licence so every electronic
manufacturer wants to use these frequencies.

Jennifer,

Are you broadcasting the SSID on the router? Or did you disable the SSID, in
the hopes that it would secure your network (it won't).

1) Enable SSID broadcast on the router.
2) Setup the wireless client to Disable "Automatically connect to non-preferred
networks".

And Jennifer, posting your email address openly will get you more unwanted
email, than wanted email. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep
yourself a bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest
of the internet - read this article.

Chuck's idea #2 is not so handy if one of your stations is a mobile
laptop. But it can help.

Another idea is to look into the adapter's properties. You may find a
setting under the "Advanced" tab that may enable you to specify your
SSID. I utilize Linksys wireless cards and used this feature to resolve
problems with the powerup of PC's. A PC comes out of hibernation or
standby and automatically selects your wireless SSID to connect.
