Conflict with Norton SystemWorks 2005

B

Bob

Just for the record, I installed MSAS last week on my two
desktops with both programs running correctly including
the security agents. All reports and scans functioned
properly. Today, after upgrading to NSW 2005 from NSW
2004, none of the security agents now work on either
computer. All I get now are blank screens and incorrect
messages in the real time protection area. The scan
function for spyware still operates correctly. I see that
at least one other person has documented this problem
with no solution as yet. Hopefully someone will come up
with a work around or MS will figure out how to solve the
conflicts. Oh yes, I did everything I could to shut down
all of NSWs short of an uninstall. The problem still
persisted.

Persons have NSW 2005 running on their systems with AntiSpyware Beta 1, but
have nott encountered any such problems. I probably uninstall it anyway and
wait until the second beta of AntiSpyware arrives.

As Andre mentions--there are some folks running Microsoft Antispyware and
Norton System Works 2005 who report no conflicts.

OTOH, there are a number of reports similar to yours.

If you uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Antispyware (leaving NSW in
place)--does that help?

Bill - I had similar problems and no, uninstalling and
reinstalling doesn't help. Strangely I initially had NSW
and Personal Firewall working happily with Antispyware.
Then I updated Antispyware and had the various probs noted
by others - Blank left column in System Explorer and
Agents shown as Active/Inactive when they weren't etc. My
idea FWIW would be to see if there was a software update
prior to the currently offered version on the web. If
there was then it was that which created probs for me. If
not, then I cannot explain the change as there were no
updates to NSW or PF to have caused Antispyware to no
longer work correctly.

I don't have confirmation of this, but I have a distinct memory of seeing
prompts in the program (which others reported in these groups) for
submitting executables. The effect of these prompts was unclear--i.e. it
isn't clear whether they worked. And, I can no longer find them. (So much
for my memory or systematic exploration and documenting what I am doing!)
At any rate, I think there might have been a code update very early on, but
maybe I'm hallucinating, too.

I also have problems after upgrading to System Works
2005. The only thing that I have noticed so far is the
System Explorers don't show up any more. Have not
attempted MAS uninstall/reinstall yet.

I haven't been able to test this further. I have one response that a
reinstall didn't help. I was going to try a trial version, but it turns out
no trial of NSW 2005 is available--so, I'll leave this one to the pros at
Microsoft to test.

Same problems occurerd for me after installing NSW 2004 with latest Beta
running. Not fixed with XP's Add/Remove then Change then Update. Also not
fixed with Remove and Re-Install.

Thanks for the report--this is the first mention I've heard of the 2004
version. One mention of an NSW user who did NOT report problems was one who
stated that he didn't install several of the parts--including Goback--can't
recall exactly what the other pieces were.

There have been some reports of missing parts of the Microsoft Antispyware
UI associated with various Norton products. We now have an effective fix
for these issues, posted since the messages in this thread.
