Configuring Outlook 2003 to receive email with two settings

I have several users who need to be able to load their emails from both
inside and outside of a company firewall, where the server has a different
address on each side. They are currently setup to receive inside the
firewall by accessing an Exchange Server. I need to set them up to receive
email from outside the firewall (via POP3 if necessary), and OWA is not
sufficient as they need to also be able to view these emails offline.

How do I setup their Outlook so that they will be able to download their
emails onto their laptops no matter which side of the firewall they are on?

Thanks

The best way is to setup a VPN connection and let them use Outlook normally.
Next best would be to setup the Exchange Server to support IMAP; this will
preserve their Mailboxes. POP3 would be my last choice, since it will empty
their Mailboxes if not setup right. The first way requires no real change to
Outlook, the next two would be best served with a separate Outlook profile.

if it's exchange 2003, rpc over http - if it's exchange 2000 (or 2003 and
rpc over http won't work) then http - use the full owa address, including
the mailbox name. IMAP is also an option and allows them to read public
folders. Neither standard http nor imap works with the special folders
(calendar etc), rpc over http will.

vpn and pop3 are other options, but the ones above are usually the easiest
to use.
