Configuring my E-mail to work with Outlook 2007

N

Neil McRae

I just bought a new "Intel Core i5 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPU" on which I am running for the first time "Windows 7 Home Premium" with "Outlook 2007." Until I bought my new PC, I was running "Windows XP Home Edition" with "Microsoft Office XP" in which I received E-mail from two of my accounts; my ISP E-mail address and also one account that is activated through the domain at my webpage.

Now, configuring my ISP E-mail to work with the new Outlook was successful (I can once again do both send E-mails and receive messages using that account) but then I went to configure my E-mail address at my webpage and so far I can only send messages using that account. I tried sending a message to my ISP address from that one which I then received okay, so I know for sure that the "sending" works, but for some reason I just can't receive any messages that are sent to the one account.

All messages to my ISP account are received successfully after I click to "Send/Receive All," but this is the message I get for my other one:

Quote
• ]Synchronizing subsribed folders for "[notag][email protected][/notag]

Or if I click on that account under "Send/Receive" and then choose to check for new messages only to that account:

Quote
• Checking for new mail in subscribed folders on "[notag][email protected][/notag]".
• "[notag][email protected][/notag]": Folder:Inbox Check for new mail

Thanks for any help that you are able to give me with this.

If you're going to use a brain-dead posting post like outlookforums, at least
supply linebreaks. Your paragraphs are each one big long line.

What type of account have you defined for accessing this mailbox?

I apologize for not supplying linebreaks, the paragraphs in my first post
display correctly on my system when accessing via
http://www.outlookforums.com/index.php?t=msg&th=91166&start=0&S=a609de93eb686dcbfadf90bb5b71cdb5.

When setting up this mailbox in Outlook, I defined IMAP for "Account Type"
after I chose "Internet E-mail" for the account service..

Who is your mail service provider? Have you checked their help pages to make
sure your IMAP settings are what they say they should be?

Oh, I forgot to mention: don't change the subject line.

I host my webpage with http://iweb.com/.

After I click from Panelbox to configure my mail client, it says underneath "Manual
Settings:"

Incoming Mail Server: mail.stuntsillusion.com
Or
"s013.panelboxmanager.com" for "Incoming Mail Server (SSL)."

I tried using both of the above settings for "Incoming mail server" when configuring
my Outlook, but I get the same results with either one

What have you specified for the port and the encryption setting? What does
Iweb say you must use or what have you configured the mail server to require,
if it's a server you've configured?

After my hosting account with iWeb was first set up, all I had
to do was:

• Log into Panelbox.
• Click on "MAIL" icon.
• Click on the "EMAIL ACCOUNTS" tab and select "Add a New
Email Account" from the drop-down list.
• Fill in the required fields ("neil" for the Email/name and
"stuntsillusion.com" for the domain) and then click on "Create"
to submit and finish the creation of my E-mail account.

When I went to configure my account through "Outlook 2007" after I got
my new PC, I:

• Clicked the "Tools" menu and chose "Account Settings..."
• Clicked the "Add New E-mail Account" button.
• Selected "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP"
• Checked the box that says "Manually configure server settings or
additional server types."
• Clicked "Next" then chose "Internet E-mail.".

Can you telnet to those ports or your servers?

If you've followed the instructions that iWeb gave you for connecting to the
server and it still doesn't work, your best recourse is trying to get your
service provider to resolve it with you. I don't think I can help any more.

So I contacted Iweb, they then responded and told me to click the link
in the Mail section of my Panelbox that says "Auto-Configure Microsoft
Outlook Express. for IMAP Access." I opened the register file and
allowed it to change my Windows registry. The problem is now solved and
I'm able to receive messages once again that are sent to my account
activated through the domain at my webpage, though yesterday however all
incoming mail to that account was appearing in the "Unread Mail" folder
instead of in the same folder where messages sent to my IDP address are
delivered. Messages to my IDP address deliver to the "Inbox" folder that
I have selected in the screenshot below. And then today, all messages
coming to my account on Iweb's server are appearing in
_the_folder_that_is_shown_expanded_ ([email protected] > Inbox >
(e-mail address removed)) in the same screenshot.
Strange.

First, little you can change in the registry that is geared toward Outlook
Express will have any impact on Outlook.

The "Unread Mail" folder is not a real folder, it's a search context. New
messages in ANY mail folder in the same data store as the Unread Mail folder
will be listed and the "In Folder" column of the view will tell you what
folder it's in.

IMAP accounts always have their own folder sets. If the stuntsillusion
account is an IMAP account, it will have its own folders that reflect the
server's contents.

Or maybe it was a POP3 account, I don't remember myself (though I
thought it was an IMAP account) but I would tell you for sure if I could
boot up on my old PC and view my Outlook settings. I can't, however,
because the motherboard in that system had went. And that motherboard is
no longer manufactured so I was forced to buy a new PC. I wasn't ready
to upgrade just yet and I wouldn't have bothered you or Iweb about this
if I was able to still use my Pentium4 with "Outlook XP."

If all that you describe were happening to me, I'd start over with a new mail
profile and double-check everything as I configured that profile, adding only
the types and number of accounts that I know I wanted. I also would not let
Outlook autoconfigure the accounts, but do it manually using the instructions
from the mail provider.

If that doesn't work for you, I'm stumped and I hope someone else can help.

If I delete my stuntsillusion account and then try to recreate it by
clicking "Add a New Email Account" from my Mail section in Panelbox, I
don't get asked anytime during the process to specifiy whether I want to
create a POP3 or an IMAP E-mail account. Instead, all I'm asked to do
after I click the link that says "Add a New Email Account" is:

I'd start with a new mail profile, not just a new account.
Enter the Username and Password that I wish to use.
Enter the Mailbox quota (EG. 250 MB)
And then click the "Create" button.

There is an option to bypass this automatic account creation and create it
manually. I told you this in my prior post.

After removing the stuntsillusion account from my "Outlook" profile, I
went to "Start button" then
Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > Mail (32-bit) > "Show
Profiles..."

The only one that it showed was my one with the "Profile Name" that I
call "Outlook." And it only has my ISP E-mail address as of now, so I
then clicked "Add..."

For my second profile, I entered
"(e-mail address removed)" for the "Profile Name" then
clicked "OK." From there:

TEST ACCOUNT SETTINGS:
. Log onto incoming mail server (POP3)

. Send test e-mail message

So now I have two profiles, "Outlook" and
"(e-mail address removed)." Now, after completing the
above I proceeded to _launch_Outlook_ (choosing my newly created
profile) but I still can't receive any messages to the stuntsillusion
one, so I then switched profiles and tried writing my own test message
from my ISP E-mail address to the stuntsillusion one. I closed Outlook
and then reopened choosing my stuntsillusion profile once again, and
then I clicked on "Send/Receive >
(e-mail address removed) Only." But the test message I
sent to myself never came, I kept checking for the next couple of hours
and I also looked in all of these stuntsillusion profile locations:
-Personal Folders > Inbox
-Personal Folders > Search Folders > Categorized Mail
-Personal Folders > Search Folders > Large Mail
-Personal Folders > Search Folders > Unread Mail

Have you tried using the "Test Account Settings" function in the email
account setup dialog? That quite often throws up useful error messages

Did you log into the mailbox with a web client to see if the message actually
arrived in the mailbox? If it doesn't, clearly Outlook can't download
messages that don't arrive on the server. That's a delivery problem that only
the mail service provider can trace.

I sure hope the address you've been posting is not a real address because if
it is, you've opened yourself to an influx of malware and spam. It is unwise
to ever post real addresses in a newsgroup unless you're prepared to deal with
the spambots that will harvest that address.
