Configuring a VPN over the Internet

Guest

I have a desktop Win XP Pro and a laptop with XP Pro. I would like to
configure the two machines so I may use a VPN to access my desktop with my
laptop over the Internet. Going through the Knowledge Base (KB) I was only
able to learn how to setup a machine to create a VPN to an existing machine
setup to be accessed by VPN. I was not able to find how to setup a machine
to be accessed by VPN.

As can be noted, I am pretty new at this, so any KB article you can point me
to would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you in advance!

This page should be of some help with that...

Here is how I did it...Ignore the PocketPC parts...

Note the comments about opening TCP Port 1723 and enabling GRE Protocol 47
traffic through any router or firewall the desktop PC may be behind.

Currently I use Secure Shell (SSH), versus PPTP VPN, for encrypted secure
remote access and run XP Pro Remote Desktop through the SSH tunnel...

Thank-you for the reply. This seems to answer my questions. Now to go
experiment with implementing it.
