Configuring a program to X P

I tried this on microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers but didn't generate much
interest. Does anyone have an answer to this ?

On my Windows 98 machine I use the small
SOUND RECORDER program to play WAVES.
I prefer SOUND RECORDER for this purpose because it is a simple, fast
program which I set to OPENS instantly when I click a WAV icon, immediately
PLAY the wave, then CLOSE.

On my 98 machine I have configured Sound Recorder to play the wave
immediately without my having to click the Start button on Sound Recorder,
then close the program as soon as the wave is finished.

On my new XP machine I have used Tools > Folder Options > File Types to
associate WAV files with Sound Recorder.

I have two questions:

(1) How do I configure Sound Recorder on my XP machine (as I have on my 98
machine) to PLAY the WAVE upon opening without my having to click the START
button on Sound Recorder, then close as soon as the WAVE is finished?

(2) How do I change the wave file icons from the default (Music Match on my
machine) icon which XP uses, to a Sound Recorder icon ? It has remained a
Music Match icon even after association with Sound Recorder.

Thank you.

To answer your first question just right click on one of the wave files and
pick "Open With" and then "Choose Program". Now find your "Sound Recorders"
exe file and then make sure to check the box that states "Always use the
selected program......".

Actually, I did associate the WAVE with Sound Recorder.
What I can't seem to do is get Sound Recorder to automatically play on
opening without my having to click its start button.

Also, I can't seem to find a box that says "Always use the
selected program....." in the Sound Recorder exe.
