Configure Special Folder Order in Windows Explorer.

WindPipe

Hello Newsgroups,

I have redirected the My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos to
folders on other discs, and changed their respective names slightly. To
Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. Generally 'C:\' being the system and
application disc, the redirection is as follows;

D:\Users\[IT'S ME]\Documents
D:\Users\[IT'S ME]\Music
D:\Users\[IT'S ME]\Pictures
E:\Users\[IT'S ME]\Videos

Using a very clever tool, 'Shell Object Editor', from
http://www.tropictech.de, I am able to display these Special/Shell folders
in Explorer as Folders (as in not shortcuts). The folder list is displayed
as;

Desktop
-Documents
-My Computer
-My Network Places
-The Garbo (Australian slang for Recycle Bin, garbage bin, trash can,
someone that talks way too much, a really good beer drinker,...., etc)
-Music
-Pictures
-Videos

What would I need to do\consider to set the following order to;

Desktop
-Documents
-Music
-Pictures
-Videos
-My Computer
-My Network Places
-The Garbo

That is place the Music, Pictures, and Videos folder beneath the Documents
folder. I am not afraid to put the Registry under some surgery.

Thanks and regards,

- WindPipe

Thank you Ramesh, I learn't how to redirect special\shell folders from your
website, http://windowsxp.mvps.org/, look forward to it. Since doing so I
have quite an interest in the design\structure of special\shell folders for
XP.

Thanks and regards,

Dear Ramesh,

Thank you very much it has worked very well, and a web page link worth
bookmarking. Not only does it apply to, and work for the Special\Shell
Folder Windows XP innately creates, you can also create your own folders
like, 'Downloads' and apply the same solution to the folder, and achieve the
same out come (Generate yourself a GUID for the CLSID first, if that's the
correct jargon for it). I can now retire the utility, 'Shell Object Editor',
as I have agained a better understanding on how it all works.

I have been able to apply the Windows XP Search command to the folders, and
I am working on enabling the standard (full) context menu for the folders,
and their appropriate property sheet displays. Amazingly the link you
provided didn't say that much (in retrospect didn't need too), it did
however clear a (hell of a) lot up. Thanks again Ramesh.

Thanks and regards,
