i have a laptop (vista ultimate, office ultimate) and the laptop is a member
of the domain. i have my email configured to retrieve my email from the
exchange and also have the https over rpc set also for when i am away from
the office - do not want to use vpn all the time just to check my email.

when i am out of the office, outlook prompts me for my domain password which
is good. but when i am at the office, when i log into my laptop, i am
connected to the domain server but Outlook still asks for my password. is
this because i have enabled the outlook anywhere feature?

What type of authentication do you have checked for your Exchange Account?
Look on the security tab of your exchange account settings.
