Configure and .pst install

I recently reformatted my wife's PC, running 98SE. She had 2 email accounts
(home and work, different pop servers), which I set up with Rules to create 2
sets of folders which could be viewed at the same time. When I backed up her
pst, I created 2, one (322 mb) for her primary Folders and a seperate pst
(1400 kb) for the 2nd set of folders. After reformatting and installing
Office XP (2002), I have both imported and File-Open the larger pst. Upon
doing this, only the emails and folders from the date and earlier than I set
up her second set of folders appear. I have uninstalled, reinstalled Office,
deleted her pst and recopied it (taking off the Read Only), imported and
File-Open. I have uninstalled Office, deleted the larger pst, reinstalled
Office, then set up both email accounts within the same profile and both
imported and File-Open the large pst. About all I have now is 3 sets of
personal folders, all with the emails, etc. prior to the date I set up her
second set of folders and created the rules for sending her work emails to
the 2nd set of folders. No work emails to be found. I am ready to reformat
again and start over. Any help would be greatly appreciated and will
probably save my life!!

The problems you describe can be symptomatic of using a copy of a PST that
was made while Outlook was open. If that's the case, the missing data is
gone for good. Otherwise, have you tried the Inbox Repair Tool
(SCANPST.EXE)?

By the way, never export or import a PST. You can lose data.

The more I read on here, the more you confirmed my worst fears. Yes, I did
run the Repair Tool, which found no errors. (Surprise) Thank you for your
attention and experience, which I just gained.
