computers in the same workgroup cannot see each others

My office's computers are in LAN, and they are in the same worksgroup. But I
don't understand why they can't see each others in the network neighborhood.
For example, if one user wants to share files, then other users cannot see
it. Is it the permission config. problem?

please advise. Thanks!
John

Hi John,

Are you protected by a hardware firewall (like a router)? Do you have the
native one enabled on these machines?

Without any details of your network hardware or software setup, it's
awfully hard to say what the problem is. These tips should help:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
