Computers falling off network

Fred

I have W2K native domain with 8000+ devices. Randomly computers will just
seem to fall off the network. They can't seem to connect to their computer
account in AD. We have to log in locally, remove them from the domain, then
rejoin them to the domain. That causes other issues like computer account
passwords during replication. Have any ideas what might be causing this?

I'd be interested to know if anything shows in the event log on
either the workstation or server when this happens. Time sync
problems are a frequent cause of trust problems.

Otherwise, the place to start is with the netdom and nltest tools (from the
Server CD support tools folder). You can use these to diagnose
secure channel trust problems as well as reset machine accounts
on the failing workstation.

This KB article gives a good overview of using both:

These problems can get tough -- in which case you will gain an
intimate and lasting familarity with the detailed syntax of both utilities
:)
