Computers don't see each other

Have been unsuccessfully trying to network my desktop (XP-SP2) and laptop
(XP) computers. I don't even care about internet sharing, just file sharing.
I have them connected with and ethernet switch and they both show themselves
in the workgroup but not each other.
After reading some posts, I did turn on "guest" on both. Please help, I
thought this was supposed to be easy with the "Wizard"!!

Thanks for your post! You've solved a problem that has been plagueing me for
weeks. My problem was similar to DAVERAE. I looked at the first link you
posted above and found a blurb that said NETBIOS needed to be turned on over
TCP/IP in order for file sharing to work . I turned that on and then checked
another setting (Under network connections window for the connection - Select
Advanced menu - then Advanced settings, Under "Bindings for Local Area
Connections" - ensure that the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is set.
Voila! I was able to see all of my shares across my home network.
You know its folks like you who make it possible for many of us to maintain
our sanity - Thanks very much for you post.
