computer won't boot

I have XP Home on a HP computer. It will not boot, and the floppy drive is
the only drive I can use to boot from. The recovery disks are lost. I
think the computer has a virus. Is there a way to get the computer to boot
from the cd rom? I got a boot disk but the device driver for the cd rom
will not load. It is a HP cd writer. I can get the driver but I don't know
how to un pack it onto the HP computer. With another program boot disk, I
got the c:\ drive to appear. When I typed to see what was on c:\, all the
type was messed up. I think the drive has a virus. Any help to get the cd
rom working?

Thank you,
David

Hi David:

I do not know how old is your computer, but I will try first to get a
recovery CD from HP, throught the Technical Support.

We would need the model of your computer. Normally when you boot it, you
have the chance to press a F-xx button and select the unit from which you
could boot. (HDD, Cd-rom, or even USB, depending of your model.)

Let us know how it goes.
