Computer won't boot up

Whenever I try to boot up my computer, it comes up with a screen saying that
there was an error starting up and this could be due to a software or
hardware change, or a power loss. (I do sometimes flick it off if i'm in a
hurry someplace without shutting down.) None of the modes i try to start it
up with will work. it'll flash this blue screen really fast, and all i can
read is something about "dump primary memory", though i'm not all positive
that that's exactly what it says. Any thoughts on what I can do?

Hi

If you can't access Windows normally, nor via Safe Mode or 'Last Known Good
Configuration', you will have to look towards a 'Repair' install of XP. The
following article by Michael Stevens will help:

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"

I am having the same problem. Except when I run Windows XP, it get's to the
"examining" screen and locks up. Unless this process takes more than an hour
or so that is. Can you explain why this is happening?

Hi

Shouldn't take that long. You probably have some kind of file corruption,
but without an error to work with it may difficult to diagnose the problem.
Have you tried 'Last Known Good Configuration'? That way you should be able
to access Windows with the last settings that worked properly.

when it is in its startup loop, it stops at the screen with safe mode, safe
mode with command line, last known good configuration and normal start
options but no matter which one I pick, it goes so far and restarts all over
again. As I said previously the XP install recovery doesn't seem to work
either. If I could just get it to run long enough to copy the info to my new
disk I would be happy. Any other ideas?

Hi

What kind of XP CD have you got? If you have OEM version, then you may not
be able to access your files, although some OEM CDs will perform a 'Repair'
install of XP.

I do have an OEM version. But if it gets me to the "Install" or "Repair"
screen wouldn't I be able to run it?

Hi

Many OEM versions will only perform a 'Clean' install of XP, thereby
deleting all data on your hard disk/partition. Yu will have to look at the
documentation that came with your PC or contact your PC supplier.

Sounds like bad or mis-seated ram. Try removing and reinstalling the ram
memory. If you still get a dump error, buy new ram. Try to buy good quality
ram not el-cheapo kind.
