Computer will not recognise CD/R

Hello, can anyone help me on this one. I think my cd/r was not working so I
bought a new one, when I set it up my computer will not recognise it. I
have a DVD drive on my computer also but that disappear when I plug the new
cd/r on, can somebody give me some run down on this topic. any help will be
much appreciated. ( desktop windows xp home Compaq Presario 5330 ca)

check your jumpers, 1 must be set to master and the other
to slave, or both to cable select, otherwise they will be
in conflict, you bought a new drive you should have
instructions on how to accomplish this.......

I recall seeing/answering this earlier. You may have to use
groups.google.com to find the original thread.
