CD/R

Hello, can anyone help me on this one. I think my cd/r was not working so I
bought a new one, when I set it up my computer will not recognise it. I
have a DVD drive on my computer also but that disappear when I plug the new
cd/r on, can somebody give me some run down on this topic. any help will be
much appreciated. ( desktop windows xp home Compaq Presario 5330 ca)

How was the old one jumpered and how is the DVD jumpered? Check that the
new one is the same.

Got the jumpers done correctly? Also, a bad dvd on the same channel as
the cd/r can cause BOTH not to work correctly. Hopefully you will find
the real bad one.
