Ok

This is driving me mad.... i HATE networks!

We run a small office network based on a peer2peer basis. Its consists of 3 WinXP home, 1 WinME, 1Win98 & 1WinXP Pro.

The XP Pro machine has a separate hardrive where all the office files are stored. It also has a adsl connection. This PC shares its internet connection and dedicated hardrive to all the PCs which works OK.

The Win98 PC has a Brother laser printer which it shares on the network. All the PCs can connect and print EXCEPT the WinXP Pro. I have tried reinstalling the printer driver, but it still does not work. I have also turned off all firewalls on the network and this PC still wont connect/print.

We also have a Netgear print server. Again all the PCs can connect and print to the 2 printers attached to the print server EXCEPT the WinXP Pro. I can browse the network neighbourhood with this machine and see the printserver on the network, but whenever i try and add a printer, it will not recognise that these printers exsist on the network. The print server has a dedciated IP address on the network. All other PCs obtain IP addresses automatically.

Previously, the Brother laser printer was connected to the WinME which the WinXP Pro could print to!

I would be greatful for any suggestions..... Before i convert to MACs

sounds like name resolution issue. quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net
Name Resolutions Summary
MS provides many options for NetBIOS name resolution such as local cache
lookup, WINS server query, broadcast, DNS server query, and LMHOSTS and
HOSTS lookup. Microsoft TCP/IP uses NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) to support
the NetBIOS client and server programs in the LAN and WAN environments. In
the most cases, NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) resolves NetBIOS names to IP
addresses in workgroup network and WINS resolves NetBIOS names to IP
addresses in domain network.
