Computer stuck on windows logo

My daughters laptop computer is stuck on the windows logo and won't respond
to anything. It is a dell with Windows XP Home Edition. I can't tell you
any more, because it is my daughters system.

Please help.

Try on next startup to press F8 in order to get a Menu. From the
Menu Select Last Known Good Configuration. If no
help then get into the Menu again and select Safe Mode. If XP boots
up click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
Click on SR and go back
a week if you can.
