Computer Stuck in Hibernation

I recently stripped the cord running from my USB mouse to the computer on
accident, so until i get a new mouse I use the keyboard only for now. I was
attempting to switch users by hitting the windows key and going to switch
users, when I accidentally hit Hibernate. The computer went into hibernation
and NOTHING I do will bring it out, the fan is still running, the monitor
shuts itself off and will not show anything when I reboot the computer or try
anything else. Ive tried many ways to restart the computer and bring it back
out but I've had no luck, as of right now I'm using my parents computer until
I can get my own running again. Any help would be appreciated!

Here are the replys I got in the last forum I tried. Just to show what's
been suggested/tried... all have failed.

"Yo dude, pull the power plug out of the back, and plug it back in. Then
turn your computer on and it should boot up normally. "

"You probably have tried, but if you hold the power button down, it should
restart. You can also try rebooting in safe mode and see if it will start. "

"I would just start tapping F8 as soon as you start the computer. It is hard
sometimes, to hit it at the right time anyway. "

"I have not see this personally but a friend had the same thing
happen on a laptop. I didn't know what to do. It was suggested by another
friend
to press and hold down the enter key ( don't know how long, maybe 20 seconds
).
The laptop came out of hibernation which surprised me.
Just a thought... "

Holding in the power button will shut off computer, not restart it,and if you
have no reset button, hold power button is probably the best way to shut down,
pulling the cord is the worse.

Well my computer resets if i just hit the power button once, or there is also
a small reset button under that, either way no way of resetting it is
working, so I dont think more suggestions about resetting it right are going
to work..

Works for a Toshiba...
1. Power off the system and wait a few seconds to make sure that hard drive has spun down.
2. Hold down the Backspace key while powering on system.
3. The following message should appear:
Warning: Can't restore Hibernated State. Press any key to continue.
4. After pressing a key on the keyboard, the system will continue with the boot process.

Failing that, you need to delete the 'hibernate.sys' file from your hard disk.
(C:\hibernate.sys). If it's FAT32, you could boot to any Win9x,ME floppy to delete it.
If it's NTFS, you need a boot floppy that can access a NTFS volume.

Try booting up to the recovery console, and delete the hiberfil.sys
file. Without that file Windows should boot normally.

im not exactly sure how to do that if i can't see whats going on, on
the screen...

You will not be going into Windows. Boot with your Windows XP cd. You
may need to go into your BIOS Setup to change the boot order. Take R
for Recovery Console and you can delete the hiberfil.sys file that way.
If you are saying that when you turn the computer on you see *nothing*
then the problem is a hardware one and has nothing to do with Windows.

Alright, problem solved... I tried booting with the Windows XP cd and I still
got nothing, so I decided to take my computer and hook it up to a different
monitor in the house, it turned on fine, and i deleted the hiberfil.sys just
in case... guess the problem is i just need a new monitor.. but I still
don't understand why it would stop working just because I put it into
hibernation.. oh well.. thanks guys

Just to torture you. ;-) Seriously, the problem with diagnosing things
like this is that there *are* coincidences. Or maybe your monitor was
just on the verge of dying and being turned off by the system threw it
into a tizzy (tech term!).

I'm glad you got it sorted and appreciate your taking the time to post
the solution. Treat yourself to a nice new flat panel!
