Computer stops responding when I right-click the desktop!

Every time I right-click a blank space on the desktop, my computer stops
responding and does not give me the context menu for the desktop. This only
happens when I right-click the desktop; not when I right-click anything
else. Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what might have been the
cause of all of this, and can anyone here tell me what to do about this?

I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone here might have.

One quick question: If you bring up your task manager (ctrl-alt-del in XP
Home, or ctrl-alt-del and choose Task Manager in XP Pro), is there a file
process running by the name of verclsid.exe? And if there is, does ending
the process make the desktop unfreeze? If so, you might want to try
uninstalling the latest security update KB908531 (MS06-015) from Microsoft.
it has been causing some people some difficulties. I hope this helps.

It worked! Right-clicking the desktop is working properly once more.

And I'm just curious: Whatever happened to that update, so that it had code
to freeze the computer when the desktop was right-clicked? Is Microsoft
working on a fix for that update? Let me know what's going on.
