......or rather its lackt.
I like sound of speakers Altec 2100. Unfortunately for me there is no
headphones output.
Is there any device I can connect before speaker I could plug phones in and
disconnect speakers?
I know I could buy some Logitech speakers, but I dont like them as much as
Altec 2100
Thanks

You could head off to Radio Shack, get a box, mount a couple mini plugs
at the back for the connections to the speakers and the to the spkr-out
jack, and put a headphone jack between them at the front of the box.
Then when you plug in the headphones, the speakers get disconnected. Or
you could just get their http://snipurl.com/9r75 product.

Well maybe the cheapest way is to buy an extension cord. You can
obviously plug headphones or a speaker into the output. So what you do
is plug in a long extension cord that plugs into the soundcard and
then out onto your desk. On the end of the extension cord you can
exchange the output from your speakers to the headphones by plugging
them in and out. Obviously if you have a front panel for your sound
card like some Audigy and other card packages have you can do it from
the front panel without the extension cord.

There are boxes etc but that will cost you more . I found a cheapo
switch box at TOYSRUS made for the PS2 or NINTENDO or something. It
has multiple ins or outs vs one in or out with RCA and stereo plugs. I
use it switch sources for the cable sound out. Sometimes I use it to
feed my sound card in to record stuff via my TV capture card.

You could that set up too but it would require an extension cord PLUS
box. The box was $13. That way you can always have both plugged in
and just press a switch. The other way is chaeper though. You should
find a cord for 3-7 bucks anywhere.

Just get a jack splitter and plug it into your soundcard. Plug
headphones in one side and speakers in the other. When you dont want the
speakers on, turn them off. Headphones stay on all the time.
