Computer slows while burning

I run Nero 5.7 and as im burning or reading, my pewter
slowly comes to a halt!!! PLZ HELP!!!!
 
Jeff, how do you have your hard drive and cdrw burner setup? Same Ribbon
Cable? Did you update your Nero 5.7 for
WinXP?
