computer shuts down and restarts when attempting to connect to internet

I recently had someone upgrade and install to Windows xp
for me. I had been connecting to the internet through
cable but got rid of that and went back with dial-up.
Everything was fine for a couple of weeks and then my
computer just started shutting down and restarting before
connecting. I cannot get it to connect. I have uninstalled
and reinstalled and still can't get a connection. Any
clues??? Thanks
 
Is there an error message before the restart? If so, what is it?
