Computer saving internet searces etc - how to stop it??

Hi there everybody,
I'm not much of a computer whizz so wondered if anyone could help me!
I use Google an awful lot for my uni course, and I'm getting a bit annoyed
at the massive list of past seaches coming down from my Google search bar
every time I search for something. I've tried clearing the cache and removing
cookies, but neither or these has stopped this happening. I've been told that
it's my computer, and not my internet settings which makes this happen.Is
this right?? Is there any way I can stop it remembering what I've searched,
or at least only keeping it in it's memory for a week or two, to prevent this
build up??

Tools -> Internet Options

Under the content tab, click on Auto Complete. From there, you can clear
forms and passwords.
