My computer restarts itself automatically, and it becomes very annoying, is
there anything I can do about fixing this problem?

Hi Callum,

We need lots more information from you. When is it restarting?? When you
shutdown?
What are you doing on the computer at the time? Please be specific.

I addition to Curt's questions, what is the history of this problem? Is
this a sudden onset or had been happening for awhile? If sudden what
changes were made to the system right before the problem occurred? What is
the malware status of the computer and how do you check it?

First you have to fix the problem between your ears.

Hi Callum.

Click on start, settings, control panel. When the control panel comes
up, double-click the System Icon, click on the Advanced tab, then click
the Settings button under the Startup and Recovery section. Uncheck
Automatically restart under system failure and OK out of there. The
next time your machine reboots, it will most likely have a blue screen
with an error code (such as STOP: followed by a bunch of numbers). Post
back with that information.

Hum, I like Nina DiBoy's response more than any of the others. I did go where
he said to go and my box is unchecked under system failure. But, those codes
do mean something to someone who's experienced enough to know PC tech work.
My guess, without going putting you thru the ringer, is that your machine
is over heating. You better check to see if the fans are working properly and
the dust is cleaned out. Get yourself a PC can of air pressure cleaner for
about 5 bucks and take your PC outside on the porch on a windless day or
early in the morning and blow that SOB out. Your PC will thank you.

You are presumably blue-screening, and you are set to reboot whenever that
happens. Right-click My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Advanced
tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure,
uncheck the box "Automatically restart.

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get the
blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those details for
more help.

Very often that is due to heat, very often an overheating CPU or Video
Card. Often solved by adding a second
case fan, replacing/cleaning your cpu fansink, and/or replacing/cleaning
your video card fan/sink.
