Is there a know issue with Amd 64 processors and xp pro??
I am running xp pro and i am unable to shutdown, the
computer shuts down fully the automatically restarts. Im
reformating as we speak and i have set it up under
Advanced configuration and Power Inrterface, using ACPI
Uniporcessor . i tried just ACPI and did a windows repair
and it did not fix the problem , then when reinstalling
SP1a i got a fatal error and windows would not boot up
hence the reformat. Please help its an AMD 64 3000+ and a
Gigabyte Mob 8knnxp , I do not use easy cd creator, im
aware of that issue i also updated the bios and still had
problems shutting down, ive tried unplugging all usb
devices and uninstalling all PCI devices and running just
the agp card. Still no dice, windows will just not shut
down. I thought it was the power supply which buy the way
died, it was a new power supply i got today, it ran for
maybe 2 hours and quit. tried it on another pc and its
dead. So i replaced the power supply and am still having
shutdown problems??? any help would be great

You have something that is crashing on being asked to close - and the
system's 'automatically restart' is cutting in. Turn this off: in
Control Panel - System - Advanced, click Settings in the Startup and
Recovery section. There uncheck 'automatically restart'. You can also
usefully change the 'write debugging information' to (none) unless you
are actively needing a dump for debugging something, or to 'minidump' if
you are getting errors that you wish to report on to Microsoft. You
may now get a Blue screen failure instead, but at least will get some
guidance as to what is happening

This is not specific to AMD processors. It may well be some driver - in
which case the Blue screen should mention something.sys in the bottom
line. Look for that in windows\system32\drivers, right click it and
take Properties - the Version page should give a clue what it relates to
