When I first turn on my PC (OS is XP), it reboots several
times progresses further each time until it completely
boots (takes about 3-4 times to get it booted and
stable). Kept up to date with Windows Update and virus
protection is current with NAV.

Any advice?

Could be hardware related. Quite possibly flaky RAM or power supply
troubles.

Did you get a windows saying "it gonna to reboot in 1 min
with counting down second"?
If answer is Yes then
Down load W32.Blater.Worm Removal tool or
W32.Welchia.Worm Removal Tool from www.symantec.com
ElseIf
Better check for hardware, not overclocking and heat
ventilation

Did you download and installed the security patches?
