computer randomly shuts down

ok i have read the many posts here and tryed the solutions and have had no
luck!

the problems started many months ago speaking to a friend on msn messenger!
their pc sent me a file cant remember what it was, but it was a pain to
remove it keep duplicating itself when every i deleted it, but thats gone now
but now what happens insted is...

my computer randomly shuts down the only thing thats stoping it is running
an old version of pc-cillin and running the scan now, which stops it from
shutting down but constantly makes pop ups saying "error virus scan running
please try again" (to shut down that is) i cant remove the pc-cillin from my
computer which got currupt about month after infection

All i know for sure is every time i press any key my computer trys to shut
itself down and no its not a driver problem i have installed this hard drive
on 2 other pc and it does the same thing every time!

i have run so many addware, malware and spyware programs!
scanned with multiple antivirus programs and yes i was using a firewall b4
infection!
and yet everytime none of these programs can find what is causing this but
its always find other crappy spyware, malware or addwear

and wiping my HD and doing a full reinstall is not possible ATM!
i have all the main patches from microsoft! help! somebody!!!

cheers for those links!

ran them all was good for about a week (which is normal for my problem) then
it started playing up again! so i gave up with my puter! (dont think any of
thhose programs solved it! tryed it a few days later and seemed to be fine
for a while!

but for the last few days its been really bad! have ran all the test b4 and
after and duing this shutdown process is going on to find out what it is that
is it constantly trying to shut down my puter.... right now every 10-15
seconds

its not over heating i KNOW its not hardware problem it is a software problem!

the only thing i can piece together is windows itself is trying to shut
down, is there something i can do to stop windows (software) trying to shut
itself down in my reg files?

hopes this make some sense puter trying to shut down pop ups all the time
stoping me from typing!

What was your original post? In the meantime:

Shutdown Tracker - Line 373: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

The Shutdown Event Tracker provides a simple and standard mechanism you can
use to consistently document the reasons for shutting down or restarting
your computer. The information provided is recorded in the system log in
Event Viewer.

Manual: Go to Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability

Create a new DWORD value or modify the existing value named
"ShutdownReasonUI" and set it to "1" to enable shutdown event tracking.

When enabled an additional drop-down option box will be displayed with
various planned and unplanned shutdown reasons. Restart Windows for the
change to take effect.

hi,
ok i did all that! :)

whenever i shut down windows a pops comes up asking me why i want to shut
down windows... cool
but when my machine decide it wants to randomly shut down no window!

i fear switching off my puter... its a race to start up a pc-cillin! (thats
the only thing that stops my whole machine from just switching off) most of
the time it does not finish loading up the interactive icons (those by by
clock) b4 my puter shuts itself off

nothing seems to work, i dont really want 2 format my HD :(
