computer protection, detection

Karl

Hi,

I have seen lots of posts concerning viruses, spyware, malware, etc and
suggestions for various utilities and software to detect, protect, and
repair these various invaders.

I am interested in making a cd rom that has a suite of the different (free)
software for antivirus, spyware, hijackers, etc that I could take with me to
work on other folks' machines. What would be the recommendation from the
group for what I should include on the cd that would cover most of the
common invasions? I know Spybot S&D, Ad Aware, CW Shredder, and maybe AVG
will be on the list.

My idea is that if someone calls and says "my computer is acting weird", I
could go over and run the various tools and hopefully detect the problem.

Any help appreciated and hope this post made sense :)

Consider adding SpywareBlaster to the list. After it is cleaned up,
installing this adds "kill bits" to the registry that prevent many adware
installations. http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/

May also want to keep a pen drive with current definitions for each program
on hand - or add those to the CD as well.

I have Disk Cleaner set to run quiet at startup. Runs for 10 seconds or so
and exits. I also like the fact that, after you set it up, it cleans all
the following with one click (and/or automatically at boot). Makes XP's
Disk Cleanup look like a piker. XP's Disk Cleanup will *not* clean
Content.IE5.

Disk Cleaner will Clean:
Temporary Internet Files {Including the contents of the Content.IE5 folder}
