When I turn my computer on the monitor doesn't work, neither does the mouse
and keyboard. The hard drive turns on and works but nothing else. All the
plugs are in and we didn't recived a virus before it happened, at least not
to my knowledge. I am now using an old hard drive that doesn't have the same
performance as the one that is faulty. If anyone has any ideas on what it
could be, it would be helpful to know them. Thanks.

If the monitor doesn't work then it may have died. Obviously you think the
mouse and keyboard are not working because you cannot physically 'see'
anyhting on the screen because it is blank. You say all the 'plugs are in'
are those the plugs into the mains? have you also checked the plug from the
video card on the back of your pc and, the plug into the back of the monitor
(assuming your power lead plugs into the back of the monitor.) Can you hear
any humming from the monitor to suggest that it is working? have you tried
re-seating the video card? Are there any beep noises when you boot your
machine? Are there contrast and brightness nobs on the front of the monitor
have these accidentally been turned down?
