Computer not shutting down sometimes

Occasionally my XP computer fails to shut down completely and just
'hangs' . I cannot turn it off with the power button it stays hung.

I have to switch it off at the power source.

Any ideas?

try turn off the enable hibernation option from Power under Contro Panel.
That fixed it for me. My computer was saving the entire session everytime I
powered down. There is a registry fix to this too. Google for "Shutdown hangs
windows XP"

To turn off the computer hold the power button in for several seconds -
on/off is "software" controlled - switch is not "hardwired" - pulling plug
unless absolutely necessary is not a good idea - causes improper shutdown.
