computer not doing what i tell it to!

my computer won't shut down, nothing happens when i try to make it turn off.
i tried turning it off through task manager and it still won't work. ALSO i
can't open : (from the start menu) help and support, system tools-system
information , and i don't think i can LOG off now either!

is my computer possessed?
 
Hello silverone:

The first step is to be sure your computer is 100% free of all types of
malware. Then:

Can you restore your computer to a point in time immediately (or very
closely) before the problems started?

Can you offer any clues as to what might have caused this behavior? For
example - any changes to your hardware or software? Any error messages?
Does Event Viewer offer any clues? Otherwise, you'll have to make do
with lucky guesses or generic assistance, such as:

"Resources to help troubleshoot shutdown problems in Windows XP"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308029/en-us

In general, when posting in a newsgroup it helps to provide some
details about your system, such as what version of Windows XP you are
running. I would also suggest contacting the technical support group of
your computer manufacturer. Many manufacturers also run user forums
where people familiar with that brand of computer offer assistance.
