I'm a "newbie" to XP
When I was installing XP, I realize NOW that I made the name too long ( ex. "The John Smith Family" ), and now when other programs are shown in the "tree", this long naming takes up too much space
Is there any way I can go back and "rename" the computer and users
Any help appreciated
Allison

Right-click on My Computer. Click on Computer Name. Click on the Change
button and away you go!

You also have to select START first and select PROPERTIES after MY COMPUTER

I think the previous reply was just changing the name showing on the desktop
(changing the 'My Computer' name. Which you can do the way he explained,
using rename. Whereas I think you are actually changing the 'actual' name of
the computer.

To rename users, go to Control Panel / User Accounts / Change account
/ Change My Name

Hi,

Change Registered Owner and Organization (Line 7)

Change Computer Name (Line 109)

Change My Computer Name to User Name (Line 131)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

For Office XP:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Installer\Userdata\SID\Products\GUID\InstallProperties

In the left pane change: RegOwner and RegCompany

Once done, naviagate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\UserInfo

And rename it: OldUserInfo

Once done navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data and delete the
Data subkey in the left pane.

Do a regedit and find 'the john smith family' highlite it and change it
there.
