MS User

G'day. I've two items, one of interest, one that is annoying.

1) Recently, I was setting up three WIndows XP machines for a client. All
was going well and after installing al device drivers and apps (including
all updates and patches), we began to apply MS updates and Service Packs.
yes, all is well.
Now, on one machine (and only one - they are all IDENTICAL), we noticed
that the Period to Activate REVERTED back to 30 days. On the other
twomachines, the activation period was 22 days - which is correct. Now,
were're not complaining, but we would like to know what happend? Any Ideas?

2) One this same machine, we changed the computer name (on the desktop, ivia
it's properties) and every way we could think of. The name does change and
all seemed to be well. Now a reboot and VOILA back to "My Computer". Change
it again, reboot and back to default. HMMMM.

Again, nothing critical, but these certainly are two interesting items.

Cheers...

Please state exactly how you attempted to change the computer name.

Very straight forward!!! For clearity purposes, I am referring to changeing
the Computer Name (via the desktop) - I am referring to changing teh DSIKTOP
Display Name from "My Computer" to "Something Else". I AM NOT referring to
chaning the NetBIOS (i.e. network) computer name. That would be a totally
different issue.

1) Right Click and RENAME,
2) Right Click - Explore, Rename.

Need I go one?

Renaming is an OBVISOUS thing and I'm surprised that you even wanted to
know..

Oh, in anticipation of your another (or other) question(s), yes I'm an
Administrator, Yes I am a 25 year SE vet, yes it does get changed
appropriately in the Registry, yes I've made sure that any Anti-Hack/Virus
software was diabled (on this particluar machine) prior to chaning it, yes
I'm sure of what I'm doing.

And to be clear, as I mentioned in my POST, I can rename the "Mt Computer"
Icon and all is well UNTIL a REBOOT. So the method of changing the name is
irrelevant.

Second, again in my post, this system is identical to the other two. You
have asked about renaming, did you give any thought as to why we now have 30
days to re-activate (which should of been 22 days as of Friday)? Perhaps
that one is too difficult.

What's too Chill?

The original POST was quite simple and clear! Apparenlty, no-one knows the
answer and would rather fill posts with wasted comments and mesages!

I think the idea is to "Assist" and "Share" knowledge, not waste time with
non-sensical comments like "How did you do that", or "Chill".

I think I see the frustration in the user's orignal reply to an apparently
simple set of questions in his/her original post.

Waz Up.

And yet he still has the problem??? Maybe he will figure it out when NO
ONE answers his questions?
