I tried to post this message three times but never went through I
believe.

I was wondering if there are known problems with changing the name of
the computer. For instance the "computer name change screen" warns
that "changes may affect access to network resources." What does this
mean?

I am using a single computer. There is no network.

After I change the name will I need to do any changes in internet
connection? And can I use single letter names? Would that conflict
with drive names.

I am using XP pro

Thanks for the replies

It means that if you are a member of a domain, you will need a domain administrator or an
account with sufficient administrative rights to add the new machine name into the Domain.

That is all right then. It is where a computer is part of a network
(Local net, not Internet) that the name matters
