Help!

My computer computer no longer displays the Welcome
screen to select the user profile and does not allow fast-
switching anymore. Instead is says:

This computer is in use and has been locked.
Only <<varies depending on which user profiles logged
on>> or an adminstrator can unlock this computer.

There are and never have been passwords for the users.
Fast switching is still selected. I used system restore
to take me back to when it last worked but after intially
logging on using the welcome screen it's not saying it's
locked again.

Please can anyone help. I've searched the internet and
tried what suggested like changing the registry etc.

I don't know how or why it's locked and why it won't
unlock.

thanks!

I'm not sure, but I have some ideas.
Are you connected tot he internet via a cable modem or dsl?
maybe some spammers hijacked your PC
try pulling the internet plug.
then try booting to safe mode...
tap F8 as you turn it on, then pick safe mode as it comes on..

Check the screen saver settings and make sure that the "On resume, display
Welcome screen" box is *not* checked.
As for the passwords, if you didn't assign any, then just hit the return key
when asked for one.
