Using XP. Computer will sometimes lock up after boot. The hour glass will
stay on cursor and if you click on the start button or an icon it will lock
up. I thought it was the windows messager, but that was not it and I don't
have a screen savor running. When this happen ctrl, alt, and delete does not
work to show me what program is running. How else can I determine what
program is cause the problem?

Try hitting F8 right during the system's start-up -- after the BIOS screen
and before Windows starts loading. You should be given the choice of booting
in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode run a anti-virus scan and a Spyware check.
Remember to update your anti-virus and spyware definitions before hand.

Also, you could try running checkdisk. Go to Start> Run> type in "cmd" into
the
the Open field and hit Enter > A command prompt window will open > Type in
"chkdsk /f/r" with out the quotes > Hit "Y" to have the scan start when the
computer is resarted > Resart your computer > Scandisk will run -- this
sometimes takes a while so be patient.

You can use the Microsoft Configuration Tool to identify and diagnose start up problems. See the following articles for the step by step instructions.
