Computer Keeps Restarting

After installing a new program and rebooting as directed (commercial
program), I get the following message:

"This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and
log off. Any unsaved changed will be lost. This shutdown was
initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Time before shutdown:

Message
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure (RPC) service
terminated unexpectedly."

I was told that I have a virus and how to get rid of it with the
Malicious Software Removal Tool. However, I didn't have the virus and
the system continues to restart, only giving me 1 minute to try and
find something wrong.

How can I stop the restart so I can try and solve the problem? I get
the message and the system restarts even in safe mode.

I DO NOT want to have to reformat my hard drive.
