computer keeps doing consistency checks at startup

hi, my other desktop computer will not startup,instead it goes to blue screen
does a consistency,then goes to a black screen and sys windows could not
successfully start your computer. It keeps doing this same process over and
over. What do i do?

If by doing a "consistency" you mean doing a Scan Disk, in both cases
I have seen this behavior the hard drives were failing.

I'm not the best person to answer this. Hopefully someone else will
chime in.

If you have access to another computer go to the website of the drive
manufacturer (Western Digital, Maxtor, etc.) and download their free
disk check/analysis software and make the floppy disk it creates. If
yo don't know the manufacturer, most any of these programs will work
-- I'd probably get Maxtor's. Take this disk to your computer and
boot with it. It should tell you if the drive has failed. If you
have a backup just send the drive for replacement if it's under
warranty or buy another. If it's still working a little and you
don't have a backup you could install a second drive and use a disk
copy method to copy as much as you can to the new disk in order to try
to salvage your data files. This may or may not do any good.
