Computer is slow waking up

If I put my computer (Win XP SP2) in stand-by (sleep) mode, it takes 30
seconds before it wakes up again, after I hit a key or move the mouse.

That makes the stand-by mode almost worthless.

Anything I can do about this?

Thanks

Go pour a cup of coffee while you wait that god-awful "30 seconds"??

Hi Walter,

I can't answer your question.

I really don't know the purpose of "standby". Instead, I use
Hibernate and it works beautifully for my purposes which are (1)
safety when I leave the computer unattended for a significant period;
and (2) to restore all my running applications to their pre-shutdown
state.

I suspect that my restoration from hibernation doesn't take much more
time than your recovery from standby, but that fact probably doesn't
really do anything to solve your problem.

Good luck,
Richard

Probably due to your HD(s) being slow starting up.
I suggest only putting it to sleep if you are going to leave it for at
least an hour or so.
