Computer is locked

I am the Administrator of this computer and the other three Users have the
facilities too, to download softwares etc. Moving between Users has never
been a problem, until now. When trying to switch User, I get the box:
"This computer has been in use and has been locked.
Only an Administrator can unlock this computer.
Name : My name is shown
Password : "

I have never seen this box before.
I have only one password used on bootup. I have tried it and it is not
accepted.
Hitting Enter at the OK button removed the box, but switching User is still
unable to. I have to log off to enable another User, which was not the case
before.
What can I do about this?
