computer is lagging

please help, my computer is lagging. what i mean is that my mouse is jumping alot, when i move it, it'll stop for a second and then appear on the other side of the screen. it isn't very noticable until i play a video, it will keep stopping and going stopping and going... i have had this computer for some time now. it just started doing it, please help!

Have you cleaned the mouse ball recently? Try a different mouse to see if
this corrects the problem.

That is a good suggestion but i know for sure my computer is lagging. I clean my mouse everyday, even when i type it stops typing for 2+ seconds then it all appears.
