Computer is in use and has been locked

My kid has a Dell laptop with XP pro. She has locked it.
The problem is the screen to logon in is grayed out with
the cursor in the user name: field and I can't type in
anything. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del and the password but it
just beeps and nothing happens. Any ideas? I'd appreicate
any help. Thanks. Jim

I would just hold the power button until it turns off and then press it
again.
