For a few weeks now, my computer has just been turning itself off at random
times. It will stay on for a few hours, just shut off out of nowhere, and
when i try and restart it, it will get to the windows screen and then shut
off again. After sitting for a while it will restart, and windows will run,
but it will eventually turn itself off again.

Hi

Is this a shutdown or a reboot? Please have a look in the Event Viewer for
any anomalies. If you find any, please post them here.

This is a shutdown. The computer turns itself off, and i manually turn it
back on.
In the Event Viewer under the system tab, there are several error messages
spread out throughout the list. It occurs in the Service Control Manager, and
occurs at the same time as information files in the service control manager.

Wildcats,

this is a long shot but doesnt hurt to try. Go to your control panel. Choose
display, or in XP, Appearance and Themes, then to display.
In the Screensaver tab, click the Power button under Monitor power. There
you might have it set up to where the hard disk turns off after certain
amount of time.
Choose "never" in all the fields where you wish to never have that action
(turn off hard disk, monitor, etc.)
